James Frederick Henry O'Brien is a UKGC-licensed gambling operator. James Frederick Henry O'Brien has 1 regulatory action on record with the UK Gambling Commission.

This licence holder is an individual gambling operator authorised by the British regulator, the Gambling Commission, to provide gambling services in Great Britain. The operator holds an active operating licence and appears on the Gambling Commission’s public register of gambling businesses.

Publicly available information about this licence holder is limited. The Gambling Commission register lists the individual by name and confirms that they operate under a Gambling Commission operating licence, but does not provide founding dates, group structure, or details of any associated trading brands. No evidence is available in open sources indicating that the licence is part of a wider corporate group or that it is linked to a larger gambling brand.

Licensing and Operations

The operator holds a Gambling Commission operating licence, which is required for any person or entity providing commercial gambling facilities to customers in Great Britain, unless an exemption applies. An operating licence may cover one or more activities such as betting, bingo, casino, gaming machines, or other regulated gambling services. The specific activity types authorised under this individual’s operating licence are not detailed in the limited publicly accessible material beyond the fact that the licence is an operating licence issued by the Commission.

The status of the operating licence is recorded as active on the Gambling Commission’s public register. An active status indicates that the licence has not been surrendered, revoked, or lapsed, and that the holder is currently authorised, subject to compliance with licence conditions and codes of practice set by the Commission.

The Gambling Commission’s premises register associates this licence holder with one or more licensed premises, indicating that they are authorised to provide non-remote (land-based) gambling facilities at those approved locations. The register entry confirms the regulatory linkage between the operating licence and relevant premises licences, but does not provide further narrative detail on the nature or scale of operations.

No information is available in the consulted public sources about any remote (online) gambling activities, and there is no verifiable evidence of associated trading names, websites, or branded consumer-facing operations.

Regulatory History

A review of publicly accessible regulatory information did not identify any published enforcement actions, regulatory settlements, fines, or formal warnings issued by the Gambling Commission in relation to this licence holder. The Commission typically publishes details of significant regulatory sanctions; the absence of such publications in open sources indicates that no such actions have been publicly recorded against this licence holder, based on available data.

There is no public record in the consulted sources of changes in ownership, transfers of operating licences, mergers, or acquisitions involving this licence. The licence remains recorded as active on the Gambling Commission’s register, with no indication in open data of suspension, revocation, or other adverse licensing decisions.

Following a review of the operating licence undertaken against James Frederick Henry O’Brien t/a Nudgers and Pleasureland (“the Licensee”) the Commission found that the Licensee: - failed to comply with Social Responsibility Code Provision (“SRCP”) 3.5.6 – Multi-operator non-remote SR Code - failed to comply with paragraph 2 of SRCP 6.1.1 – Complaints and disputes - failed to comply with paragraph 6 of SRCP 6.1.1 – Complaints and disputes. In line with the Commission’s Licensing, compliance and enforcement policy statement, the Indicative sanctions guidance and the Statement of principles for determining financial penalties, the Commission has decided to impose a financial penalty under section 121 of the Act. Given the circumstances of the investigation, Officials considered a financial penalty of £35,470 was an appropriate reflection to the seriousness of the failings. However, in line with paragraph 2.33 of Statement of principles for determining financial penalties the quantum was reduced to £5,470 based on non-affordability. The Licensee co-operated with the Commission throughout the investigation and took corrective steps to address the identified failings.
